Eagles of Death Metal
Heart On

Review By Chris Pacifico

Using the phrase “sonic warhead sexually tipped for her pleasure” when asked to describe this third full-length from Eagles of Death Metal, singer Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes may have been on the money. His latest effort with Josh Homme features buzz saw guitars perfect for pole dancing. “I never smile when I tell a lie,” sings Hughes on “Anything ’Cept the Truth” with the voice of a slick-tongued bastard rife with infidelity issues.

“Wanna Be in L.A.” makes us remember that perhaps LaLa land has faltered ands suggests maybe the last time it was onto something was when Van Halen emerged in the ’80s. Case and point is Eagles’ “High Voltage” with its slinky rhythms and sexual tension. Of course, there are the moments when the tambourine comes in handy (“Secret Plans”). Then, there’s the ’70s Laurel Canyon vibe on “Now I’m a Fool” and “Prissy Prancin’” both of make EODM live up to claim of its namesake for the first time ever, suggesting its sound is similar to what the Eagles would have sounded like if they had listened to death metal.
